Sonoma Developmental Center Employees Graduate from Napa Valley College Psychiatric Technician Program

On Tuesday, December 15, 2009, 23 students graduated from the Napa Valley College Psychiatric Technician Program during an evening ceremony held in the Little Theatre at the College. Six of the new graduates are employees of the Sonoma Developmental Center and were sponsored by the Center.

Sonoma Developmental Center acknowledged their employees' accomplishments in a press release announcing the graduation ceremonies. The six are Brenda Mae Callejo, Cristine De La Cruz, Mindy S. Dominguez, Jaseph Hiteroza, Junie R. Kangleon, and Evelia O. Zaporteza.

The Psychiatric Technician Program at Napa Valley College is a three-semester course operated in cooperation with hospitals and healthcare agencies and accredited by the State Board of Vocational Nurses and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT). Students learn pertinent skills that are used in the care, treatment, and rehabilitation of mentally ill, emotionally disturbed, or developmentally disabled individuals and earn a certificate in Psychiatric Technician. After successfully completing the program, graduates are eligible to take the licensing examination.

According to Napa Valley College, there is a shortage of experienced and trained psych techs in California.

If you would like more information about becoming a Psychiatric Technician, or other career opportunities at Sonoma Developmental Center, you can visit the Center's website at www.dds.ca.gov/Sonoma or go to the Napa Valley College website for more information about their program.

An Evening in the Emerald Isle

The main fundraising event of the year for the Parents Hospital Association is just two weeks away.

On Saturday, March 28th, beginning at 5:00 p.m., we gather in the Barrel Room at Cline Cellars in Sonoma Valley for a lively evening of fine food and entertainment enjoyed in the spirit of good will for those in our community with developmental disabilities.

Why not join us? We've planned a Guest Reception at 5:00 p.m., followed by the Wine Showcase & Auction at 6:00. Dinner, entertainment and the live auction begin at 7:00. The Barrel Room at Cline is a wonderful venue as you can see from these pictures from 2008.

Our honorees this year are Senator Dianne Feinstein, Father Patrick Leslie, Fire Chief Bill Murray and Bob & Kathy Benziger.

If you'd like to participate - by volunteering, contributing an item for the auction, or attending the gala dinner - please call or send an email today. We expect this year's event to be as exciting and
successful as always and would love to have you join us in any way possible.

Visit the 2009 PHA Fundraiser page on our main website for more information and to download an invitation.

Besides being a enjoyable evening out with good friends and supporters, our yearly fundraiser is what makes our support and advocacy work for the residents of Sonoma Developmental Center throughout the year possible. If you would like to make a difference, won't you join us this year?
